The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil – Proverbs 15:28
Heavenly Father, God, thank You for my husband. Thank You that he is my husband and I have been gifted him for doing life together and for your glory. If we are going to be married for the next lifetime I know there will be a lot of things that we need to talk and communicate about. I ask now God that You would grant us the ability to always be learning how to better communicate with one another. That You would remind us that our words are powerful. I pray that we would seek you in our communication. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

I was sitting on the floor in my (now) husband’s apartment as he worked on a paper and we had an argument. I don’t remember what the argument was about. Nothing important I’m sure. But I wouldn’t let it go. Wouldn’t even let the redemptive process get started.
He stopped the cycle from spinning further out of control by saying “This is not something we can continue to do if we plan on building a life together. I’ve seen first hand that this is not the kind of communication that keeps people working to be together. Will you work on communicating with me?”
That sentiment has come to mind more times than I care to admit as I think about a phrase I could use to come out ahead in an area where we disagree. And then I flashback to that moment. I remember we need communication that is us working to be together.
I know this journey is supposed to be about husbands, but communication is a two-way street.

Thanks, love, for working on communicating with me. Thank you for taking time to learn how to approach hard things better and for being willing to help me do the same. Your wisdom is communicating with me is so loving and gentle. I can see how you want to take care of me.
