I’ll be the first to admit that when new fads come on the scene – whether it’s fashion, food, literature, technology, whatever – I like to sit back and watch for awhile. My excuse is usually that I’m not cool enough to pull such-and-such off fashion wise (read: too cheap to buy it) or I want to wait until the techie bugs are worked out (read: too cheap to buy it).
Usually I don’t know anything about literary trends until the books start becoming movies. Or I start seeing stuff about them in memes on Pinterest. I don’t have time to leisurely browse book stores these days if you know what I’m saying. So I kind of wait and see what kind of fuss comes out about something then I make a choice about reading/watching it.
When 50 Shades of Grey started becoming meme-ified, I was immediately turned-off (pun intended) to something that made people think that sexual humor on baby onesies is ok. A popular pin on pinterest became a baby shirt which read ‘9 Months Ago My Mommy Read 50 Shades of Grey‘. So I made a decision then and there that I didn’t want to be reading the books. But other than that baby tshirt, I didn’t have any solid reasons why.
Now I do. I realize that erotica creates a false reality that changes our expectations and perceptions of reality and can make us discontent in our marriages. The very thing that women say is awakening their marriages can actually be eroding their marital thought processes over time.
When this ‘mommy porn’ is all around us and it seems ‘normal’ and even ‘helpful’ we absolutely have to consider what God’s Word has to say about it.
Enter Pulling Back the Shades. This book takes a biblical look on how God created sexuality, why we have the desires that we have, as well as what the Bible says is ok and not ok when it comes to sexuality.
I know I’ve talked about this book before and I’m so glad to let you know that it’s one of the 10 books on marriage in this year’s Christian Living Bundle. The 10 marriage books in this bundle are valued at over $79 just for those 10 books!
I’m so humbled and excited to have been included in this bundle, that I just want to share in the excitement by giving away stuff! Comment with which of these 10 marriage books you’d LOVE to read and I’ll choose a winner randomly to win a Jesus Storybook Bible, my all-time favorite kids Bible of all time.
The Bundle is an awesome collection of books, courses, and audio valued at over $1000 but is available until Monday for just $34.95.

1 Timothy 6:11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.
Heavenly Father, God, Thank you that my husband is a man of God. Even if he isn’t a believer, You are making yourself known to him. I thank you for his qualities of righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, and gentleness. These manifest themselves in so many ways in him and are such a unique part of who he is. Thank you Lord. Thank you for creating this man and blessing me with him. Amen

When I was a junior in college, my best friend’s parents came to visit. She lived in a dorm and I had an apartment so we were sitting in my living room, talking about me coming to their family reunion that summer. Her dad decided he would introduce me to all of his nephews so I could meet someone. He has a lot of nephews so to help narrow down the search he asked what I was looking for in a husband.
I said my number one criteria was to find a Christian man.
A couple weeks later on what is easily one of the best days of my life outside of the birth of my children and starting my marriage, I went to worship service on campus. And my husband was the speaker that night. I was enthralled. Captivated by a man who could talk like that about following God and there be evidence of it in his own life.
Just in case you’re wondering, my husband is wonderful and amazing and godly, but he isn’t perfect. Over the last seven years I’ve had the privilege of watching him grow as a man of God more and more.

Thanks, love, for being a man of God and growing more in His ways every day. Thank you for taking time to be self aware and to grow in the ways God has for you to grow. I’m so blessed to get to watch you grow and even more blessed that our kids get to watch you grow too. #thankshubs #day6manofGod

Now, it’s your turn. Take a minute and write what you’re thankful for when it comes to your husband’s job or a prayer of thanksgiving of your own. 1 Timothy 6:11-12 (KJV) – But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
These are qualities so hard to find in today’s world. Lord I thank you for giving me a man who pursues these qualities. Thank you Lord, for a Man of God. Thank you darling for always working hard to reflect these qualities of God in your life. Lord help him to always follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. Lord though this is no easy undertaking you promise that nothing is impossible with You and that we can do all thing through Christ which gives us strength. Lord help him to stand firm in the faith and be strong. #thankshubs #day6manofGod @respectdare
