The alarm went off. I knew I had set it plenty early and I thought hard about rolling over. And I did for a minute. But once I’m awake, I’m awake. So I got up and jumped in the shower. I was getting ready for work and sat down bleary eyed with my breakfast and my one year Bible. By the time I was finished, I was awake and ready to go for the day.
…
I have a pretty big confession for you today.
This blogging that I do about marriage isn’t REALLY about marriage.
Yes, I talk about marriage. Yes, I talk about parenting. Yes, a lot of posts seem to be pointed at things I can do to work on the relationship to the guy I am married to.
BUT…
At the heart of EVERY post is this undeniable truth :
I work on my marriage because it is pleasing to God, the creator of marriage. My actions may please my husband, but that is not my goal. My goal is to offer my marriage as a pleasing sacrifice to the Lord, to know Him and what His unique role for me in marriage is, and to lay down my selfishness and humble myself to do those things.
Today’s dare talks about the power of knowing God, carving that time out to spend with Him, and the amazing influence you will have over you household – modeling this behavior and then living the calm it brings you.
Ladies, if you’ve been here before, you know I’m going to say to just try something – a little more of a something than the nothing/something you did today. I have ideas for doing it by yourself in this post.
When I used to work outside of the home, I woke up EARLY and had quiet time when my house was still. Now my house is never still. And I never know when the nursing toddler is going to wake up. That’s ok. God knows RIGHT where He has me. And so He grew in my heart a desire to carve out time and now I do my reading while we all sit around the breakfast table.
And if you don’t have any quiet time at your house, that’s ok too. I’m loving reading this Bible storybook with my little people. And they love it too. And oh my word! if my heart doesn’t just speed up every time I read the words in a way so simple (it’s written for 4 year olds!) and yet my heart neeeeeeeeeds to hear.
Dear, sweet sisters. My encouragement for you today is to remember that marriage isn’t you and your husband against the world even though I know there are times when it feels like this is so very true.
But God WANTS to be in your marriage. Remember that a chord of three strands is not easily broken. (Ecclesiastes 4:12) And the more you are able to cling to the God-strand in your marriage, the thicker your life-line will be.
Because let’s face it – marriage is hard. In good times and in bad times. In sickness and in health. For richer or poorer. As long as you both shall live.
So as we all work together to learn more about marriage through God’s eyes, just know that I am truly humbled that ya’ll are here and walking alongside with me. The road seems shorter when traveling with friends.
