It’s December 1st which is typically the day that I finally agree to listen to Christmas music. The Advent calendar is (supposed to be) getting started and I feel like “Ok, sure, Christmas music. I’m in.”
However.
[However? There’s always a ‘however’ in Princess stories. (Sweetpea Beauty)]
However, our kids are doing really great at learning and singing along with hymns and other songs – if we practice them TONS. So wanting them to worship and participate with the Body this Christmas, I knew mommy might have to relent a little and put some Christmas tunage on a little earlier.
I got Our Daily Bread for Kids Christmas to review from Family Christian and I put it in the CD player in the car. The best shot we have at listening to anything is in the car, so into the Mom-mobile it went.
At first listen, it was typical kids music. Kid voices. Synthesized music. Catchy, jumpiness. Basically, the reason why parents don’t really enjoy kid music.
I almost took it out of the CD player then and there. But you know how it is – it’s in there and I’m driving and it’s not a priority to change the CD when the baby is screaming, the toddler is whining in sympathy with his baby sister, and the preschooler is singing at the top of her lungs to whatever little diddy she has in her head.
By the 3rd listen through ODB for Kids Christmas, I noticed myself humming along. Shoot. The catchiness was indeed catching. Figures. I wonder if my kids have even noticed the change in music yet or if I could get it out of there before they do?
In most ways, the catchiness wasn’t bad. It was just that all I could think was “this isn’t how ‘Joy to the World‘ will sound at church. Will they be able to sing along?”
The CD has been in the car now for about 2 solid weeks and wouldn’t you know it, I’ve heard the 4 year old sing along to one of the songs. She mimics the kids’ voices on the songs which sounds a little high and squeaky and she misses words she can’t understand or doesn’t know.
This is my mom jam. Seriously. I hum. She sings at the top of her lungs. It super entertains her brother. And the baby sleeps.
Will ‘Silent Night‘ sound like it does on the CD when we sing it in church? No. But, that’s ok.
She will know the words and more importantly, she’ll have the joy of belting out worship stamped on her heart.
So Our Daily Bread for Kids Christmas is a fun CD that I’d guess your kid will enjoy and you might even find yourself enjoying too.
