Hi Friends!! It’s time for the Monthly Pick-Me-Up! If you’re new or maybe don’t know what the Monthly Pick-Me-Up is, it’s an opportunity for us to get to know one of our community members and then send her some mail. For the full explanation on the MPMU, click here.
Meet Paula, This Month’s Monthly Pick-Me-Up
Tell us a little bit about yourself:
I’m Paula, I’m 41, and an Assistant Intervention Teacher for Northwest Elementary, Hobbies – trying to start Bible Journaling, Planning on a garden this spring – my first!!, love watching just about any Ole Miss sports, and love Crossfit and doing 5k/10k/half marathons (walking with a tiny bit of running!!), and music – I love listening to music and singing as well. My favorite food is well… pretty much anything other than beets and chicken livers. I am not picky at all. Sweet Tea, Dr. Pepper, and Coffee with some bottled water throw in there occasionally are my go to drinks. My absolute favorite Ice Cream is Baskin Robbins Mint Chocolate Chip, or Blue Bell Butter Pecan. I have been married to my husband Jody for 5 1/2 years, unfortunately we are currently separated. I have prayed and begged for several years but the choice to reconcile now lays between Jody and God I am mother to a 19 year old, a 15 year old, a 13 year old, and stepmom to a 13 year old, and can’t leave out our precious rotten princess, 8 year old chocolate lab Bella.
What is something that makes you special?
I have had a passion for troubled and special needs children for as long as I can remember. I love finding ways to put a smile on their faces. My job was a new position in our school district that fell into my lap at the perfect time. Gave me an opportunity to work with children who are not quite on grade level and some just really need encouragement and a friendly face to get them through the school day.
What is your favorite part of online community? Why?
I love having the ability to be in a group of like minded women outside of my every day circles. I have been part of an online community of mothers for the past 14 years, all of us had children due June of 2002. Even though we are all from different backgrounds, different parts of country, and different incomes and different religions.. we know we can always depend on each other for support, for a shoulder to cry on, for a kick in the butt when needed, and always for prayers support and encouragement as well.
What is your least favorite part? Why?
Sometimes it would be nice to get a real hug instead of cyber hug from precious prayer warriors and friends or share a cup of coffee in person rather than just virtually.
How do you get community in your every day life?
As a teacher my community is mostly made up of children from Kindergarten through 6th grade. I have a few friends from church that invite me to eat with them several days a week. Since I am misplaced from home and my children live with their dad (my husband from a previous marriage) I do not have much community. However, many from my church family make sure I know how loved I am.
What is your favorite way to build into others?
I spend a lot of time doing what I can to encourage others. I tend to spend more time volunteering to help friends than spending time on my own. I often go sit with a friend who had surgery or needs help with kids. They often offer to pay but I do it to be a blessing not to be paid.
Read any good books lately?
I miss reading, I need to make more time for myself to be able to read more. The past 2 weeks I haven’t even made time to read much from all my favorite encouraging blogs.
How do you take your coffee and how many cups a day do you drink?
Coffee… Oh coffee… Even when I cut out my Dr Pepper, I could never ever give up my coffee!!! When I moved I couldnt bring myself to put my Kuerig in storage, so it is now in my classroom!! I usually add a teaspoon of raw sugar or stevia in the raw and a little creamer. I do love vanilla and caramel creamer. I especially love the Christmas season and the peppermint creamer that comes with it! Yumm!!!
