Hey Y’all. You ever have a day where you’re out and about and there’s so much swimming and friends and you think to yourself that your kids will sleep for days and instead everyone skips naps and you could sleep standing up? Just me? Ok.
This week’s video is my Top 3 Tips for prepping for a road trips with littles. Something I’ve gotten way too good at this summer, but I know I should be excited about this new skill set. [Also how much different is it to not have a baby for a roadtrip? I feel like there’s 4x as much stuff with a baby but right now while our youngest is two, I feel like I have this mastered….but I know that come October…HA.]
Cutie Family-Ness
My 3 year old, Lemonade, is already asking how many “sleeps” it is until her 4th birthday. Someone is excited, that’s for sure. Plus we just went to a friend’s birthday party. Gearing up.
When my 2 year old, Dozer, gets ready to do anything he says “Need to run?” like it’s some kind of question. And then he says to himself “Ready, Set, DOE!” And then he runs, even if it’s 12 inches away. This kid.
On the day no one would nap, I went in to get my daughter from her rest time and asked her if next time she could clean the kitchen while I nap. She answered that no, she was just too little. And I said you can wash dishes, unload the dishwasher, sweep and wipe the floors, and wipe the counters. She had no answer to that and asked if she could watch a show instead.
Pregnancy Update
I’m 28 weeks, which I just realized from a handy chart means I’m in my 3rd trimester. THIRD TRIMESTER PEOPLE. I just, I can’t even. I guess I’m getting nest-y-ish tendencies. Like today I scrubbed the drip pans on the stove. And then I spent some considerable time wondering how I’m supposed to use steel wool and have nice fingernails. But I digress. I also crazy scrubbed the shower the other night and organized the pantry. I thought nesting was suppose to be for baby stuff? But I know I have it all and that it just needs getting out and washed which I just won’t feel like doing with 3 months to go. So there you have it. We’re hoping to talk baby names this week. I won’t announce the finalists though. We tend to call in an audible at the last minute. *shrugs*
On The Homestead
Something is making our squash plants die off -both summer and winter squashes. Which is weird. Our corn looks puny. But PICKLES! We got pickles! My husband brought in an arm load of stuff this afternoon. I didn’t even see what was all there but I better get to preserving it.
In Other News
I gave the boys haircuts on Friday night. My boys were lookin’ pretty shaggy. And whenever the boys get a haircut, my daughter wants one too. Usually I just even something up or snap the scissors behind her head so she thinks I’m cutting it. This girl loves her hair down but it was always crazy in her face and I’ve been threatening bangs. And Friday night she got them. She looks 12 and I just ….man. Of course I cut them in the same shag bang style I have because…well obviously I’m no genius. And she’s asking for headbands and my new ones should be here anytime. Maybe this is the solution I’ve been waiting for!
Also, I’ve been wondering: how many of you have small businesses or would classify yourself as a work-at-home-mom? Or how many of you are working full time in or out of the house? How many of you doing preschool drop offs or volunteering or nursing a baby all day every day? I know that sometimes what I want is just someone to be excited with or for me, or some encouragement. And so I was wondering who in this community is doing something like that? I’d love to know. Just curious how you all spend your days! Can’t wait to hear from you all!
P.S. I found this on Pinterest and I feel like I so hope this is true. Because I know I am an awkward friend and friend maker.

I am a mother of two. My oldest Son is 10 years old. I also have a newborn son that is 17 days old today. I have worked full-time, Part-time, and now I am stay-at-home mom with my newest addition to the family. I feel like all I do is nurse all day. But I love the bonding time with this newborn.
I love reading your blog when I have time too!!

Great tips. We are road tripping up to northern Scotland this weekend (and back the following) – it’s about eleven hours if you do it straight, which we are not! Actually our little man will sleep pretty well in the car, so we are going to try and do the majority of it in two nighttime marathons. I am currently at home all day with munchkin but in just under two months I am going back to work, hopefully four days a week (just waiting for the official sign-off from my bosses on that). And man, I am a churn of emotions about it :-S

Eleanor, blessings on your road trip. Going to northern Scotland makes me pine for Downton Abbey just a little. 🙂 Going back to work is stressful and emotional. I pray it goes well. -Leah
