Hi friends. First, THANK YOU for taking time to answer or comment on last week’s post. It was really helpful and insightful to know what you all like to read about. As it turns out, it was pretty well split on what people like the most and what people like the least. C’est la vie. So I’m going to keep our Monday Musings posts as they are with some added features. Hope you enjoy.
This Week’s Video
This week, I talk about three blog series I have coming up and I ask for your thoughts and questions before I write them.
Recap: Entrepreneur’s Wife, 1 Corinthians 13, Praying as Moms.
Questions? Things you’d like to see in these series?
Cutie Family-Ness
“Mom, can I just help you finish your bacon? You don’t look like you want it right? I’ll help you.” – Lemonade, 3
Oh, you mean this piece of bacon in my hand that I was just putting to my mouth? Nah, you’re right I’m finished.
“Let’s have grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner!” – Me
“Mom, what’s a grilled cheese sandwich?” – Lemonade
“I think I’m just going to have to sleep in my bathing suit so I know where it is.” – Lemonade
Baby Update
I’m 31 weeks pregnant. Which means I’m 9 weeks from having a baby. So if you please let’s not doing any backwards math because I am not ready. I’m not ready to scrub down the carseat and the bassinet. I’m not ready to wash loads of tiny baby clothes. And I don’t have any place to put them once I do. I’m not ready to reorganize furniture and figure out where the swing is going to go.
You know that nesting instinct that people get? Mine is coming out on scouring pans and making sure the big kids have clothes and shoes to grow into. Probably because in my head, I know the baby has absolutely everything s/he needs and if I get the big kids taken care of then I’m set.
Anyways, I’ve been a little under the weather. And I have a rash which is pregnancy related. Thankfully it has cooled down here in East TN so it’s a lot less itchy than it was. My round ligament pain is better, although not gone.
The kids have officially divided on the brother sister issue with one vote each. Very excited about this tie-breaker baby. Maybe we’ll get a name picked out here soon. The kids keep suggesting Stogawogalina. No joke.
On the Homestead
I picked tomatoes this morning. Plus two yellow squash, two zucchinis, peppers, and an eggplant. This morning’s secret to picking success was a Jenga game I bought at a garage sale for $1. The kids think it’s the greatest toy, I think because it comes in its own container with a string and they like to pack stuff up.
I think I shall make some more tomato soup or maybe some minestrone. My friend used all the goods from the garden to make some and I thought “AH HA! I might just get my kids to eat eggplant yet!” HAHAHAHAHAH Ok I’m done cracking myself up here.
What I’m Reading
So this is a new feature. A number of people asked me to include what it is that I’m reading and learning about.
A few months back I picked up Bringing Up Boys by James Dobson (and also Bringing Up Girls). It has been really insightful and made me realize things about my son that I knew were true, but I guess I never realized were true for most boys.
I’m hoping to start Bringing Up Girls soon.
I’m also reading (because, ya know, I like to spice things up) Redeeming Childbirth by Angie Tolpin. I always say I really like being pregnant and I’m pretty good at it. I also think I’m a pretty hands-on mom. But those 8-10 hours that I’m in labor….rough. So I told my husband I think while we were still in the hospital from baby #2 that I wanted to try to learn more about this before baby #3 and this is what I started with. Really grateful for awesome and godly women who are willing to share out of their own experiences.
And in my Bible Study back in Ohio, we were reading through the Old Testament. I have kept this up even after the move and am now in the book of Job. I have to take it slow and read the notes, but I’m really enjoying reading through the history and the heritage of God’s chosen people. It’s why I’ve been able to geek out in some blogs posts. (Like this one. #nerdalert)
In Other News
This week we celebrate the 4th birthday of our darling Lemonade. She gave us pretty specific directions for her celebration : pancakes for breakfast, time at the lake, and pink cupcakes. While she is asking for a little more flair, because what princess doesn’t want a little flair?, we love to take birthdays really simply around here. I’ll write about that next week.
Also, I’d love for you to join our social media communities. I post some great pics on instagram, witty banter on twitter, periodic updates on facebook, and (currently) lots of preschool print outs on pinterest.
Have a great week friends and I look forward to hearing from you as always!

I like Lemonaids’ comment re “having to sleep in her bathing suit – so she would know where it is”. Sweet (and practical).
Leah says
Maria, she’s always thinking, that one. 🙂 I’ll give her that.

I am planning to start Raising Girls. I borrowed it from the church several months ago. Maybe we should read it together virtually!
Also, my kids dubbed their little sister Ruppunzel Anastasia while she was in utero. Though she was the only one with a name before birth because she was the only one for whom we knew the gender.
Leah says
Rebecca, I would LOVE to read it together virtually. I’ve underlined like CRAZY in Raising Boys. Email me or get me on facebook, ok? And Rapunzel is a cool name 🙂
Rebecca says
Just for the record, her real name is not Rapunzel. We told them it was cool, but we wanted to go with a 7-letter name since they have 7-letter names.
