How to Teach Your Children Virtues Right Out of the Bible (Virtues Training Bible Review and Giveaway)

I want to teach my children truths from God’s word.

I want to teach them to be in God’s word.

I want to teach them that the truths they need are right there in God’s word.

So I really love resources like The Children’s Training Bible and The Virtues Training Bible. I even did a review of the The Children’s Training Bible back at the beginning of my blog.

And today, I’m SO excited to share with you my own experiences of putting together and using the Virtues Training Bible (VTB).

So, what is it exactly?

VTB is over 500 (!) scriptures that are categorized by the virtues we want to instill in our children – prayerfulness, thankfulness, endurance, justice – 42 inspired and life-giving topics, right from God’s word.

It’s kind of like a road map to help you and your kids get into and go through God’s word to see what it says.

So, why do I love it?

Honestly, I love putting it together. While VTB is a labor of love, it gives me the opportunity to be active in the Word and to see and underline and read verses.

I also love knowing that I have a place to look when I need to find something or when I want to show something to my children.

Is it easy to do?

Yes, it’s a very simple process. You work by topic to find and underline or highlight, then use the master sheet to put the tab in the right spot and VOILA!

Ok, I like the sound of this! What do I need to make my own?

You need a Virtue’s Training Bible kit. This includes an instruction sheet, the master sheet which shows the topics, then three sheets, one for each side of the Bible and tabs that has the lists of scriptures on one side and verses.

You also need a Bible that is approximately 9″x6″. I used an NIV/Message parallel. I did the underlining on the NIV column since the Message isn’t numbered by verse, but it’s there to have right there to look at if we need another translation.

Also, you’ll need to pick up two packages of post-it flags. Yes, you’ll need two packages of them. I also advise that you don’t let the kids play with the tabs until you’re finished with the VTB. Not that I’m talking from experience here. *ahem*

And you need colored pens that match the tabs – VTB recommends highlighters but I used these super smooth pens and underlined instead. (And when I did the CTB I used some roll up crayons of my daughter’s which were also very smooth and didn’t bleed though the pages.)

(I’ll also include the links with pictures at the bottom of the post!)

This looks like an excellent resource! I have a 9 year old boy. When he lost his brother 6 years ago, he started getting into trouble and when he went to court at the age of six to discuss why he was doing what he was doing, he told the judge that he was saving to buy another brother from an orphanage. When he was told that wasn’t the best way to get one, he started praying for another sibling. In October, we got pregnant with another baby, now due in July. My goal is to do a better job raising my boy and this new baby with their sights and focus on God, rather than looking to solve their problems with worldly efforts. Thank you for considering me for this giveaway. But I’m sure it will be a blessed gift to whoever gets it!
